The Girl Says to Me

When I look at the girl who is smiling in the photo, I often stare at her for a long time as if she is another me who lives in another place. I miss the time I spent with many companions, but I don't know if they have forgotten all of our happy times. Actually, they have grown up and gone to different places. This means that they have their lives, which are different from mine. As for me, I'm also living a colorful life and enjoy my time. Suddenly, the eight- year old girl jumps from the photo and is standing in front of me. She is the eight-year-old me.
The girl says to me:"Do you remember your past? I 'm your past. I want to remind you of past times, maybe they are fading from your mind."
"I'm honored." I say with a joking tone.
“Do you remember you played with your brother in a sandy land at the age of three? At that time, you had a healthy body and happy smile. Everything seemed to be new and exciting every day. When you were a little girl, you were able to take care of your brother because our parents were always working outside. However, you never thought you were lonely because your little brother always accompanied you. Even if he was naughty, you were capable of doing everything to the best of your ability. You were at least a good girl. Besides, you had a happy childhood because of your great mother, who always took care of you when you were seriously sick. Even though you were in a poor family, you still had a happy life without worrying about anything.Do you feel satisfied with your childhood now?"
I sit in a deep thought and answer, with a light smile, “I always think so."
We start to be relaxed and sit on the bed. I serve her a cup of tea.
She asks me like a mature girl," Now, can you tell me about your changes over these years?"
I think for a while and tell her all of things that have happened to me, especially my life in high school. I tell her that that was the first time I left home to live alone. That was a happy and unforgettable time in my life. I still miss the day that I went out to eat Tangyuan, a glutinous rice balls, with my roommate on a special day. And all kinds of little things gave me a deep impresson such as going shopping in the lively streets, celebrating the birthday in the dormitory, and singing together like a big family that was made up of different girls. On the other hand, the saddest thing in my deep memory was that I failed the final exam and went to an undergraduated college. And it made me feel utterly desperate and helpless. Fortunately, I came to the USA and have another chance to achieve my dream.
"You are lucky," she says happily.
"So I appreciate it no matter how hard it is for me." I say with a low voice, "This is a hard journey you need to prepare for it now, but before you do, enjoy your childhood. You know, this is a valuable time and it will never come back to your life again. "
When I ask her what's her feeling about my recent years, she feels surprised and excited for her future and can’t wait to experience everything. Meanwhile, she feels worried and nervous. I have no idea how to comfort her; after all, I'm also worried about her, an eight-year-old me. She is curious about how I grew up until today. I don’t want to tell her because I want her to use her own ways to go on her future.
"I believe you can do it, even though it is not easy to suffer through everything. Many people will help you. Take their advice, but don't depend on them. Don't let others tell you what you can't do. If you really want to do something well, you can do it. Achieving your dream is just a matter of time and your efforts."
I pause for a while and have some tea; she looks at me with confused eyes.
"Just remember this is a hard pat., Be serious about your choices and don't be childish," I add. She looks more confident; however, she doesn’t say anything.
It is time for her to leave. We hug each other tightly to feel our hearts.
The girl says to me," I’m proud of me all the time."
At that moment, I see bright light in her eyes. I seem to believe she will do better than I, a different girl, another me. Before I respond to her words, she leaves. I only see the shadow on back of her small body. I suddenly realize she maybe one of my real friend-in fact, the one friend who knows me best. She lives in my heart all the time.

Book Review

In this semester, I read a funny book named High Fidelity , which is written by Nick Hornby. It describes a man called Rob who has many girlfriends in different periods of his life. And there are varieties stories between him and his girlfriends. He has many confused points about their relationships. At last, he chooses Laura to spend his rest of life when he figure out his questions. There are many funny people appear in the book. Therfore, I recommond this book to all of my friends.

How has art influenced my life?

Literature is a key to open the civilization of human beings, which occupies an important place in my life. I always relive the memory of the time I was in high school. I used to like to read books in the classroom or the dormitory as long as I have free time. I liked the feeling of being a reader, and enjoying valuable books has become a happy and important part in my past few years. Books taught me how to reward the elders, how to value happiness I own, and how to struggle with difficulties I meet to live as an independent woman. I couldn't possibly remember how much time I spent with books; they are like real friends and patient teachers who accompany with me every night and day whether I feel lonely or happy.
Rewarding the elder is a difficult lesson for a growing young person to learn in his or her whole life including me. Have you ever heard of such a thing: a college student who was eager to continue his education in the college, but his parents can't afford his tuition because of their financial circumstances? At last, he still insisted on finishing his college life regardless of family disagreements and sacrifice. Maybe, you would say that students in the US should work in order to graduated from college or university. However, do you believe that this kind of things happen in poor family in China almost every year? Students don't have enough money to continue their college, and their parents usually support student financially. I read this real story in books and magazines repeatedly. The most meaningful point was in the last few sentences of this article, “We often think of how to reward our parents, but we always think we have a lot of time to do that. Then, we wait and wait until we get older and older; we find that our parents have left us for another world. They didn't get anything from you until death comes. Reward your parents as soon as possible, even new shoes, a bunch of a flowers, or a simple sincere note. They will be satisfied and happy." It is so similar and closed to my life, and warns me that can’t forget to thank my parents at any moment. Actually, I will never have enough time to reward them fully, even if I have a long time, I can't repay them fully because the love they give me is priceless.
Just like ignoring parents' sacrifice, we often admire the happiness of others, and ignore the happiness we have already own. "Remember of the happiness”, is an impressive article written by a famous Chinese writer, Bi Shumin. In that article, I read words I will never forget for my whole life: "We always like to aftertaste the specimen of the happiness, but we ignore to treasure the happiness when they come in front of us.” We are often eager to gain wealth, reputation, and power. But happiness isn't relevant to them. When we don't have anything, we have happiness because we have good health; when we don't have good health, we have happiness because we have a healthy heart; when we don't have a healthy heart, we can still say, "We have happiness because we have lived in the world." Though this article, I saw the happiness I possess. I have my parents who often care about me every day and night. They still stand by my side. I have a few real friends; they often give me a hand when I am in a daze. I have a healthy body and heart. Besides, I can think of a lot of happiness I have all the time. When I feel sad, I always think of those words. Therefore, don't covet others' happiness, or think that you are suffering. Do you believe it? In every life, happiness is more than the sufferings because the happiness has the value which the sufferings don’t have.
In order to protect and pursue more happiness, I should overcome the difficulties I order to be an independent person during my life. Have you read Jane Eyre? This book describes a strong girl, who is brave enough to pursue her happiness, even though she grew up in a hard situation. She still finds her happiness on her own As an independent woman, her spirit deeply shocks me. In her early age, she lost her parents and was abused by her aunt and cousins in her uncle’s house. She was sent to the school named Lowood after she got sick in the house and couldn’t stand their abuses. During the time, she saw her best friend die of disease and she couldn’t do anything for her. When she thought she found her real love, God seemed to play a joke on her. She found her lover had had a wife all along. However, she married with her real lover at last. After reading the book, I learn that I’m fortunate though I always complain about the difficulties I face. These difficulties are part of life. Life changes every moment and every second. When I saw all kinds of difficulties people face in the world, my difficulties seem to be so little. For my future, I need to be stronger and more independent.
All of examples are just small part of influencing my life by literature, that plays an important role in my future. I have a good time with my favorite books. During the time that spent with my books, I start to care about the elder especially rewarding my parents, and discovering that the happiness I have own and treasuring them as much possible as I can. Also, I learn to be brave and independent woman to pursue my future for me and everyone around me. For me, literature is not only the key to open the civilization, but also the key to help me succeed.

censorship

Censorship is the act of deleting materials which are considered objectionable, harmful, or sensitive, usually by the government. Censorship happens in throughout the world and on works such as the arts, magazines, music. It was used as a tool of protecting, but it also blinds people in some way. This suppression has caused fiery argument in the past years. Do we have right to censor materials that people can't accept? This is question we should ponder for a long time these days when we often claim freedom. In my mind, censorship is a way for censors to protect the society, but we should have a clear idea about which materials should be censored or not.
In fact, the debate over censoring art has continued for few years in the past. One of the examples was a painting that exhibited by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, in 1999. A young English painter who came from an African family, Ofili tends to shock people by using a painting of Virgin Mary, who is recognized by Catholics as the Mother of Jesus Christ. Ofili tried to use elephant dung to paint Virgin Mary. Therefore, in New York City, the painting caused people's anger for using elephant dung on her breast and cut out genitalia pictures from the magazines to use in the background of the painting. Mayor Guilian of New York City opposed the exhibition of the painting because it offended and showed disrespect to Catholics. The censorship was challenged by the ACLU and the NYCLU. Finally, the painting wasn't censored by the government. In my opinion, the government has no right to censor paintings simply because they dislike the composition of paintings. As we know, the artist respected Mary and only tried to give Virgin Mary the aspects of a fertility goddess by using an African fertility symbol, elephant dung. I believe that a matter of a painting is the artist's heart, which is more important than others such as materials of painting, or the styles of drawing pictures. If the government censored paintings, talented painters will lose chances to contribute more excellent paintings for humans, just like a prison that limits their development.
Another censorship happened in popular magazines. A National Geographic Magazines has been censored by Iranian authorities because of the offending cover. The subject of the cover was an embracing couple inclined to kiss each other. They censored this cover by putting black slabs of ink on the cover of the magazines unexpectedly; the cover of the magazines was censored in a subtle way. In this case, we can see that Iranian authorities were apparently sensitive with the pictures about sex. However, I consider that it is natural for people to see that a couple behavior in that way. The magazines just tried to show the subject of love and the couple didn't do anything but embrace. That can't affect people in Iran. The authorities don’t have the right to censor it and it is not necessary to do that in this world that stated the freedom. If they censor those pictures like this cover, it will lead more censorship in this country and cause more unnecessary troubles. After all, it is a reasonable way to show Iranian about human world. Their behaviors will make people more doubts and resentment.
Furthermore, censorship on music seems to be normal. Reggaeton, a new music genre was censored by the Dominican Republic in January 2006. Because of controversial lyrics, reggaeton was banned on radio, and albums were boycotted, in countries like Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Even The reggaeton artists were not allowed to held concerts in a few Caribbean countries. The upper classes of Latin American regarded the lyrics of reggaeton as vulgar, and the music represented the negative aspects of the life in Latin American. The government also thought them too violent and sexual and derogatory towards woman. However, Master Joe, a new artist reggaeton, thought it was a way to express and share their experience in their life and the lyrics never put women down. Fortunately, the music was lifted in the end of the 1990s. From then, they can appear in the music store as a regular and public music. I think that music is a important element in modern society. At that time, it is a world of aristocracy. They were considered as a contributed the most to the society. It seemed that the decisions the government made also were influenced by upper class. However, the commoner were in the situations that can't have rights to get whatever they want. Reggaeton music appeared as a product of that society, it expresses artist experience freedom. It shouldn't be censored if they don’t mean to have a bad influence on anything.
Nowadays, every country seems to like state freedom, but not all country can do it well. Above events are a few examples of the censorship. The questions of censorship have been an unavailable debate in reality. Freedom is the exception from the censorship in this world. Because of different reasons like religion, polity or individual, censorship was a tool we can't leave behind in this age. It has both sides, the matter depends how we to use it in correct way. In most part of the world, we own the ideal of liberty in supported of human rights. Though the rule is the rule, we are still looking forward to embracing more freedom in the near future.

Memory about Influence

Memory about Influence
In my memory, there are so many influence people and events that deserved me to talk about. At my age of twenty, I always imagine me like a child who play at the seaside, haven't known a lot about life yet. Then, I try to recognize the world and find my position in this too big world for me. During the time, it appears many important people and things happen to influence me in my life. One of my important people is my mother, the other one is my father, and the last one is my friend. I can't remember the details, only some unclear pieces of memory often appear in my brain.
My mother is the most influence people in my life because of her strength. I my memory, my mother almost never cried after my father left us to another country. Since I born, she company with me until now. There are so many things happened to us, this is also a reason why she plays an important role in my stories. However, the most impressing thing for me took place in a summer. In that summer, my father just arrived in a strange place, the US. As a stranger face unfamiliar land, it was a hard time for him to find a job. Meanwhile, my mother also was the most skinny in the terrible situation. Another semester was coming, but we don’t have money to pay the tuition, even the tuition was only One hundred yuan. I sat in the house all the day, and didn’t say any words. At last, my mother came back and gave my money she got from the work that day. At that moment, I didn’t know why I felt angry with my mother because she told me she had money but I didn’t see her until dusk. Meanwhile, I also felt sad and guilty, my mother supported the family all the time and I couldn’t help her even a bit. My mother always do things like that, she likes to suffer everything if she can. She teaches me to face the painful time, no matter how toughest the reality is.
My father, a host of my family, he worked hard in order to support this family for decades, except for my mother. He suffers a lot that I can’t imagine at my age. I knew that when I came here to struggle with him. However, the most influence thing happened to me was an utterly sad when he was in my hometown. That night, the clouds hide the whole sky, he was so angry with me even though I can’t remember why he was so angry. The only thing I can remember was that he hit me and then threw out the box, which I used to raise my favorite insect, silkworm. For me, I’m afraid of almost every insect but silkworm. Everyday, I brought leaves to feed them, I was very happy when I saw them growing up day by day. Until the terrible night, everything was happened to us. The silkworms died of the drowning because of the heavy raining at night. This was my first time I feel utterly depressed and had nothing to do to protect something I love. I cried all night to release my great sadness. In my mind, I started to consider my father and adults were so cruel, sometimes they didn’t care about our feeling. After many years latter, I had another opportunity to raise the same insects; however, my feeling was different. After all, they were another life not the same as before. From then, I know I have had a wound that can’t heal in my heart, no matter the time past. Sometimes, I hate the utterly pain and sad feeling when I have to face to lose something or somebody I love, however, the life is out of my control.
When I grew up, I start to leave my parent and learn to how to live with myself. This thing was happened in my first leaving home, and lives in a dormitory with my classmates. During the time, I learned a lot with the help of my roommates. She, was one of my roommates, always stayed with me like best friends. One day, I yelled bad words at her when we were in an argument. After that, she didn't talk with me even a glimpse of me. Though I knew something wrong with us, I couldn't talk to her because of my stubborn character. Until that day, she initiatively told me that she cried all night because of my bad words. I feel suprised and guilty about my rude behavious, on the other hand, I acted like I didn't care her feeling. In fact, I didn't mean to harm her, I was afraid to hurt anyone around me. Similar things happened many times in past of my life. Frankly, maybe I was a strange girl, I am afraid of someone who wants to get closed to me. I hate them not only worried about myself am hurt, but also worried about them are hurt by me. Maybe the basic reason is that I have strong self- protection awareness to protect myself. I often imagine there was a high and wide wall surround me, it separates me from others like a castle. This is also one of the reasons I don't want to talk too much with others except my trustful persons. These years, I force myself to change beccuse her those words in my brain all the time. I believe, if you build a wall surround you, it reduces the sadness, but also more the happiness.
In my memory, there are varieties of sporadic pieces about my past. They influence me to behaviour in some way. The strong mother, cruel but work-hard father, and my best classmates, all of them, teach me good lessons on life. If I have a chance, I will tell them I appreciate all of things they have done for me. The influence they bring to me is difficult to describe. I will take these memory to continue on my path to future..
